The Vows

Ryan’s Vows:

Here stand I for all the world to see
That to thyself have I come to pledge my life;
For with this hand I confirm my choice in thee
And with my words I make myself thy husband knight.

My love, my troth to thee is simple thus:
Take my being, my heart, my wordly store,
Keep all in your heart, making the one us.
My life, ‘til death, to thee is given o’er.
Wherever thou art, wherever thou goest,
My sword is thine come poverty or wealth
All others are forsaken, this thee I hold
Close to protect in sickness or in health.

Now with this kiss into thy soul is pressed
My covenant, thou art flesh of my flesh.
Now am I entered into the wedded state,
Now am I thy lawful mate.

Laura’s Vows:

Goode and gentle lord, this day shall forever remain sacred unto me,
for on this day I take thee as my husband knight,
under the laws of the universe and
in the presence of these folk here gathered.
All are witness to my troth,
that I shall hold thee as mine own,
whatever thy estate,
come poverty, wealth, sickness, health;
where’er thou be’st, by thy side is my place.
From this day forward we shall be known as one,
that Laura’s honour is Ryan’s honour,
thy family is my family,
my house is thy house,
my worldly goods know only we two as owner.
Yet above all, take my love as thine.
Treasure it for it shall sustain us when life proves fickle
and we must contend with its follies.
For this is the greater portion of my wealth and my oath:
I love thee.
